Welder Fabricator

Fabricate and weld acoustic canopy bases, sides, roofs and sub-assemblies for assigned contracts based on technical drawings and associated documentation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in a thoughtful, safe manner, considering your working environment and health & safety of others.
  • Read, interpret, and build from technical drawings as assigned by the Engineering Dept.
  • Lay out steel construction efficiently and with a high degree of accuracy prior to welding.
  • Measuring, cutting, and bending of steel components for construction.
  • Steel cleaning and cleaning supervision when working with apprentices and new starters.
  • Operation of all the following equipment: MIG welder, spot welder, pillar drill, horizontal cropping m/c, horizontal band saw, angle grinder, roller bender, taps, dies and related hand power tools.
  • Participate in material handling to suit the business needs.
  • Willingness to transfer to other duties to support the production requirement.
  • Participation in training where appropriate.
  • Work in a timely, efficient and organized manner to produce a high-quality product.
  • Maintain high standards of workshop cleanliness, essential at end of shift.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in welding/metalworking.
  • Ideal candidate will possess a minimum of NVQ level 2 in a fabrication related subject.
  • Must be able to safely operate a MIG welder. Form own weld preps and dress welds to standard.
  • Basic maintenance of plant and tooling including reporting of defects/faults.
  • Must be able to recognise weld defects and how to rectify the fault.
  • Positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative manner, as part of a team or with minimal supervision.
